So, I started blogging in 2023 but I was as enthusiastic as a person in 2013 would have been to share bits of myself with the world, one post at a time. At first, I had ideas about making money through my blog, like a lot of people. But as I went along, I realized I wanted it to be more personal. I wanted to share my experiences, my thoughts, and a few things I’ve learned here and there. Something real, something I actually care about.
Since COVID-19, the way people consume content has really changed. And now, with AI making information so easy to find, it seems like true reading has become rarer. It’s funny how often I hear, “How do you find the time to read books?” These are people with the same 24 hours in their day as I have! It’s not about time; it’s just a choice. Do you pick up a book, or do you pick up your phone to scroll through reels?
But back to blogging…
It almost feels outdated now; not many people are writing personal blogs these days. But the ones that are still around? They’re charming, and I love finding them. (Maybe I’ll share a list of my favorites sometime soon!) Some people are still pouring their thoughts into long posts on Reddit and other sites, but Reddit isn’t really my thing. I’m 22, but sometimes I feel like I’m 82 in this online world. Blogging just feels more comfortable—a place that’s right for sharing my thoughts.
When I come across old Blogspot sites, some dating back to the early 2000s, it’s like walking into a whole other time. There are people who used to post hundreds of times a year, and now it’s just a couple of posts here and there. They still have thousands of followers, but maybe they’ve moved on to new things. Blogging isn’t the same as it used to be.
There are so many sites out there now, and it’s hard for new blogs to get noticed. But if you find even a handful of readers who connect with your words, it’s worth it. You start to enjoy writing and sharing just for its own sake.
And when you’re genuinely care about a topic and want to talk about it, Instagram or any other platform can feel a bit limiting, especially when your account is private. Having a blog, whether it’s on Blogger, WordPress, or any other platform, feels like such a better space. You can share without feeling judged, without worrying too much about how it’s received.
I’ve felt this firsthand.
So, if you’ve got a personal blog and love writing—about anything at all—don’t hold back. Even if it’s not about books, I’d love to read it!
Keep blogging. Just keep blogging.
